Flower
|
This African art form is known as Shona sculpture because it is hand carved by the Shona of Zimbabwe. A majority of the Shona people reside in rural parts of Zimbabwe and live and work close to Nature. Shona folklore teaches that all things possess a spirit -- including flowers. When sculpting a flower, most Shona artists don't try to copy the appearance exactly but try to portray the spirit and living beauty of a flower abstractly.
